Caroline Sue Allen Passes Away at 57
Services for Caroline Sue Allen were held June 7 at Emanuel Temple Church.
Caroline was born Thursday, Oct. 7, 1948 in Portland, the 11th of 14 children born to Geneva Jenkins and Isaac Allen Sr.
Educated in the Portland Public Schools system, Caroline graduated from Jefferson High School. She later attended college, where she majored in social work. Upon completion of her formal studies, she went to work as a social worker for the state of Oregon.
Caroline later met and married Ernest Moore. She had one child, Tanetta. In 1978, they moved to Los Angeles, Calif., where she continued to be employed as a social worker. They returned to Portland in 1994.
In 2002, a significant transition occurred in Caroline's life. She successfully completed Project Network and overcame a longtime battle with addiction. During that time she became a member of Emmanuel Temple Church along with her daughter, Tanetta. She attended faithfully, and loved the music and listening to the Rev. Wells' sermons. Most recently, she enjoyed attending her group support meetings at the home of Bambi Thompson. As Caroline's health declined, she attended church as often as possible — even with her oxygen tank.
Caroline had a unique sense of humor and loved to laugh. She was an avid reader, especially of mystery novels and also enjoyed watching television detective programs. Her favorite color was blue and her favorite passage from scripture was Ephesians 6:11.
Caroline died on Wednesday, May 31. She was preceded in death by her father, Isaac Allen Sr.; two sisters, Millie Pollard and Niemah Shamsu-Din; and six brothers, Freddie Allen, Monroe Allen, Steve Khalid, Cleve Allen, David Allen and Kenny Allen.
She leaves to cherish her memory a daughter, Tanetta, and son-in-law Kevin; three grandchildren, Marquis (Honey-Bunch), Condale (Peanut) and Kevin (Pickle); her mother, Geneva Allen; three sisters, Virginia (Deena) Pumphery and Mariah Taylor, both of Oregon, and Rosemary Banks, of New Jersey; and one brother, Isaac Shamsu-Din, of Colorado.
She also leaves her best friend, Shirley Stanton; a goddaughter, Valarie Fields-Rocha; and a host of other family and friends.

Sharlotte Akres, Texas Native, Dies at 64
Sharlotte Akres was born on Jan. 6, 1942, in Lovett, Texas, to Charles and Christine Austin. She moved to the Portland area from Texas at an early age.
Sharlotte attended Holaday Elementary School and Jefferson High School. As a teenager, she would visit Dishman Community Center with her friends, where they would make various types of crafts and just do what girls do best when hanging out together.
Sharlotte had one son, Anthony, whom she loved dearly. They were a mother and son who could talk about anything. He was the highlight of her life.
This talented woman had many skills, including nursing, cooking, fishing and nurturing. Not only was she loving and joyful, she was a person who would find inner peace in giving to others.
Preceding her in death were her mother, father and two sisters, Camilla Lockett and Joann Austin.
Sharlotte is survived by her son, Anthony Austin; a brother, Earl Austin, and his wife, Betty, of Alabama; her companion, Lee Jenkins; cousins Robert Craven and his wife, Drew, of California, and Wallace Sanders and his wife, Delores; a niece, Tanya Stoudamire; a nephew, Damone Austin and family; friend, Marie Smith, of Alabama; and many other relatives and friends.
Service were held June 7 at Cox & Cox Funeral Chapel.
