Matt Garrett Director of ODOT
As the Oregon Department of Transportation prepares to deliver its largest construction program to date, we continue to look for opportunities to position the agency for success. The ODOT Workforce Development Program and associated diversity efforts, initiated through the OTIA III State Bridge Delivery Program, are preparing the agency, our industry partners and the state to deliver a successful construction program.
These initiatives are important to me personally and are strategic for the construction industry of the future. These initiatives are increasing the responsibilities and changing the role of ODOT's Office of Civil Rights. To emphasize this change and ensure continued success as ODOT implements this critical work, I am changing the leadership of this office effective Monday, March 6.
Michael Cobb, Diversity Manager with the Bridge Delivery Unit, will assume the role of Office of Civil Rights Manager and this unit will be brought into my office. Marie McHone will continue to serve in a different role within the Office of Civil Rights.
I appreciate Marie taking on new duties and thank her for her service and hard work on behalf of the agency. Please join me in welcoming Mike to this new responsibility. Many of you have worked with Mike and know that he is well positioned to lead the Office of Civil Rights during this time of tremendous program growth and change.
The current direction for ODOT's workforce development and diversity efforts remains unchanged, and Mike will continue to perform his duties with the Bridge Delivery Unit as we develop a transition plan. I am confident that the Office of Civil Rights will continue to achieve success in diversifying our internal and external workforce, positioning Oregon for a continuing and strong construction industry.
