The 2022 Rose Festival Court presented by Unitus Community Credit Union is now complete. All fifteen Princesses, selected from area high schools, will receive a $3,500 scholarship generously provided by The Randall Group.
For the first time since 1930, there are two new schools represented on the Rose Festival Court. Both 2022 Metro Princesses come from high schools new to the Rose Festival Court presented by Unitus Community Credit Union.
Metro East Princess Isabella Ellsworth, a junior from Adrienne C. Nelson High School, is the first court member from Oregon’s newest high school. Nelson High School, which opened its doors this fall, is located in Happy Valley, a part of the North Clackamas School District. The brand-new school is named after the first African American justice on the Oregon Supreme Court. It is also the first high school in Oregon to be named after an African American woman.
Metro West Princess Jenny Duan, a senior, is the first student from Jesuit High School to not only enter the Festival’s traditional scholarship competition, but also to win the Princess position as well. The last time a Princess was selected from a first-time school was in 2014 when Emma Waibel not only became the first student to apply and win from West Linn High School, but became Queen of Rosaria in the same year.
The Princesses will take time out for spring break before reporting to the Rose Festival Court headquarters in April to start their program. Each court member is also assigned a mentor, a female executive recruited from the ranks of Unitus Community Credit Union.
Following their April training period, the Court will begin a travel program in May that will take them from visiting senior centers to meeting with the Governor at the State Capitol. The Court outreach is generously supported by the Royal Rosarian Foundation.
During many of the meet and greet opportunities and public appearances like the official opening of CityFair, May 27, the CareOregon Starlight Parade, June 4 and the Fred Meyer Junior Parade, June 8, the Princesses will also go through a final round of judging to determine the next Rose Festival Queen of Rosaria.
The 2022 Queen will be announced in a special Coronation ceremony on the morning of June 10 at the Peninsula Park Rose Garden. The Queen and her court will make their first public appearance together Saturday morning, June 11 in the Spirit Mountain Casino Grand Floral Parade.
The mission of the Rose Festival Court program is to provide scholarships for higher education, to promote community outreach and volunteerism, and to offer networking and mentoring opportunities to outstanding young women in a program that perpetuates an appreciation for Rose Festival history and tradition.
