The Oregon Historical Society last weekend bestowed its annual History Makers Awards, this year honoring Bernie and Bobbie Dore Foster for their work publishing the Skanner News for the past 38 years.

Also honored with the Oregon History Makers Medal at the Oregon Historical Society's annual gala fundraiser ceremonies Saturday, Sept. 21, were businessman and philanthropist Pete Mark; legendary distance runner Alberto Salazar; and the sixth-generation family business Pendleton Woolen Mills.

Over 275 guests attended the dinner and auction at the historic Montgomery Park to honor the 2013 History Makers, who have made a vital and lasting impact on Oregon's history.

"The History Makers Dinner provides a rare opportunity to recognize living leaders who, through their unique talents and efforts, have made Oregon a better place," said Oregon Historical Society Executive Director Kerry Tymchuk. "Bernie and Bobbie Foster, Pete Mark, Alberto Salazar, and Pendleton Woolen Mills exemplify the Oregon spirit, and make each one of us proud to be an Oregonian.

Each year, the History Makers Dinner raises essential funds for the Oregon Historical Society, to ensure that OHS can continue to preserve and protect Oregon's history for future generations. Past history makers include Columbia Sportswear matriarch Gert Boyle, leading cancer researcher Dr. Brian Druker, the father of Oregon's wine industry David Adelsheim, and best-selling author Jean Auel.
