Video: Joe Mcferrin Is The Skanners Newsmaker of the Year

Joe McFerrin, CEO and President of Portland Opportunities Industrialization Center is The Skanner's Newsmaker of The Year. McFerrin was honored at the Royal Rosarians annual Newsmakers of The Year Banquet, held in the Lloyd Center Doubletree Hotel Jan. 23, along with other newsmakers chosen by television and print organizations.
McFerrin was chosen for the award because of his work in expanding  the center's education and wraparound services for youth. Last year, two school districts in East Portland asked McFerrin to open a new high school in East Portland. Rosemary Anderson East is expected to open in Spring 2013.
McFerrin was also named The Skanner Foundation's Drum Major for Justice 2013 at the Martin Luther King Jr. Breakfast.
