Seahawks Out to 2-0 Start with Win Over Arizona

The Seattle Seahawks are off to a 2-0 start after a 21-10 win over the Arizona Cardinals Sunday afternoon at Qwest Field in front of the largest crowd ever for a Seattle home opener.
The defense rolled over the Cardinals offense, with five different Seahawk players sacking Cardinals' quarterback Kurt Warner.
"Our defense really stepped up to the plate today. I think they have a chance to be a special group, I really do, by the end of the season," Seattle Head Coach Mike Holmgren said.
"When we have our opportunity to make plays, we do it," linebacker Julian Peterson said. "If everyone is contributing to making plays, it's very hard to stop a defense."
League MVP Shaun Alexander tied Steve Largent's franchise record with the 101st touchdown of his career on a 2-yard run early in the first quarter and finished with 89 yards on 26 carries.
Wide receiver Darrell Jackson caught five passes for 127 yards and scored on a 49-yard touchdown pass from Matt Hasselbeck, putting the Hawks up 14-0 before the half.
Backup running back Maurice Morris put the icing on the cake with a 16-yard run in the fourth quarter, the longest of the day. Morris picked up a first down on the play — which led to several more plays with which the Hawks could run out the clock — and also had a 27-yard kick return.
"It just feels great to go out there get a win and make a good play," Morris said.
Despite dropped passes and two interceptions, the Seahawk offense got its first touchdowns of the season — after last week's touchdown drought in Detroit — and racked up 341 total yards. Fullback Mack Strong helped seal the win in the fourth quarter by converting on third down with a 13-yard run and then a 3-yard touchdown run up the middle.
"Offensively … it's a work in progress but we have good offensive personnel and we should improve in that area as well." Holmgren said.
Even with the "12th Man" roaring behind them, the Seahawks offense will have to remain consistent and minimize mistakes and missed opportunities when it faces the 1-1 New York Giants at Qwest Field on Sunday. The Giants have potent weapons in quarterback Eli Manning, wide receiver Plaxico Burress and their No. 3-ranked offense.
