More than 14,000 high school students converged on the Oregon Convention Center, Nov. 6 and 7, to attend the 2011 Portland National College Fair. Coming from as far afield as Battleground, Wash., Tillamook, on the Oregon coast and across the metro region, juniors and seniors came to learn about how to apply for university, how to get financial aid and what colleges look for in an applicant.

More than 300 colleges from across the country had booths at the fair.

Students from Lincoln High school said they are considering colleges close to home and farther afield. Pictured from left: Lavell Lindsay, Justin Scott, Johnl Jackson and Terrell Pittman

Workshops covered topics such as, how to write a college entrance essay and how to find funding for college. Students told The Skanner News the fair, sponsored by the National Association for College Admissions Counseling,  had inspired them and opened their eyes to new opportunities.  "It was very helpful, said Erica Ocampo of Tigard High School. "I really got to explore my options."

Dorothy Gunn (L) and Natasha Yeggins from Roosevelt High school said they looked at Clark Atlanta University
