Portland's seven-year tradition of offering free outdoor performances at Washington and Mount Tabor parks will continue with performances beginning Thursday, July 13.
New Moon Productions is partnering with Multnomah Arts Center and Portland Parks & Recreation to present "Alice In Wonderland" as part of the Summer Theatre Camp mentoring program.
This tradition of theatre, mentorship and free outdoor performances has gone on for the last seven years. Over 300 children and teens have participated in the program, and more than 35,000 audience members have attended the free performances.
At the beginning of camp, the young actors go through the audition process and are typically divided into four casts. Each cast will perform at least once at both parks. Dates for the youth cast shows this summer will be July 15 and 16 at Washington Park and July 22 and 23 at Mt. Tabor Park; performances are scheduled for 2 and 4 p.m. Saturdays and 2 p.m. Sundays.
The adult cast version performs July 13 through 18 at Washington Park Amphitheatre, with performances at Mt. Tabor Park amphitheatre July 20 through 23 and July 27 through 30 (no performance July 28). Performances begin at 6:30 pm and are free to the public, though donations are accepted.
In its 12-year history, New Moon Productions has produced over 50 plays and has had over 9,000 children come through its programs as either students or cast members.
