On Wednesday, March 6, Julia Dixon was named a princess of this year's court. Julia is a senior at Franklin High School and expects to graduate this June. After graduation, Julia’s main career plan is to become a clinical psychologist.
The Rose Festival Court, includes 15 outstanding students from Portland, Metro East, and Metro West high schools. The court provides higher education scholarships funded by The Randall Group, promotes volunteerism, facilitates networking, and encourages an appreciation for the history and traditions of the Portland Rose Festival. Throughout the season, the court will travel across the state to learn, volunteer, and participate in community and Rose Festival events.
Julia is ready to join the Court with the focus of giving back. “Portland has meant so much to my family and to me,” says Julia. “Community service work with the Rose [Festival] Court feels like a great way to give back. I also want to join the Rose [Festival] Court for job shadowing opportunities and to celebrate Portland one last time before I leave for college.”
Looking ahead to the Portland Rose Festival, Julia excitedly awaits the Grand Floral Parade. She says, “My favorite Rose Festival event is the Grand Floral Parade. It is such a magical celebration of different cultures and organizations coming together to celebrate the Portland community.”

What is your favorite Rose Festival event and why?
My favorite Rose Festival event is the Grand Floral Parade. It is such a magical celebration of different cultures and organizations coming together to celebrate the Portland community. I also love that all of the floats are made mostly from seeds; it is a great testament to Portland’s ingenuity and appreciation for nature.
The Portland Rose Festival Foundation is a 501(c)(3) non-profit that serves families and individuals with programs and events that promote arts, education, and volunteerism. We value environmental responsibility, diversity, patriotism, and our historic & floral heritage.
