Celebrating 10 Years of Reclaiming the Dream of Martin Luther King Jr.

For a decade, Don’t Shoot Portland (DSPDX) has hosted a children-led march on the national Dr. Martin Luther King Jr’s holiday to honor his memory while urging the community to stay active on civil rights and Anti-Racism. This year DSPDX kicks off 2024 with a new art grant program, a banned book drive, a monumental art exhibit at PICA and more.

On Saturday, January 13, 11:00 a.m. - 3:30 p.m., a community printmaking event followed by a lecture and book signing giveaway by esteemed anti-racist educator Professor Ernest Crim III will take place at the Pacific Northwest College of Art at 511 N. West Broadway in Portland.

Participate in a free community art screenprint workshop, making signs in advance of this year’s Reclaim Martin Luther King community action on January 13. Learn more here.

Take in a history lesson from anti-racist educator Ernest Crim III, a former Chicago high school teacher and esteemed commentator featured on CNN, HBO, The Washington Post, ABC, WGN, PBS, CBS, NBC, Newsweek and various other outlets. 

On Monday, January 15 at 1 p.m., the public is invited to the 10th Year Anniversary of Reclaim MLK Don't Shoot Portland PDX March for Human Rights and Dignity.

On February 23, Don’t Shoot Portland will commemorate ten years of organizing and community activism by taking part in their exhibit as part of the Policing Justice installation at Portland Institute of Contemporary Art (PICA).Policing Justice installation at Portland Institute of Contemporary Art (PICA). 

Join them on February 23 from 4:00 to 6:00pm for an opening reception and artist panel featuring DSPDX board president Taishona Carpenter alongside Policing Justice exhibit participants. Exhibit runs through May 12, 2024.
