After a nearly yearlong hiatus, Portland’s favorite brown clown is back -- and she’s having a party. Join one of this decade’s Rose Festival “Entertainer of the Year” award winners, Nikki Brown Clown for her Seconnd Annual Block Party from 3 p.m. – 8 p.m. June 23 between 10th and 11th Ave. on NE Emerson Street. Bring yourself, your friends, your family, and of course your children.
The multi-colored, green-haired, all-fun Nikki Brown Clown says she’s come back to her native Portland after a break because she felt it was time -- and so for this year, she’s got an even bigger agenda planned of family-fun planned for her block party/homecoming combo.
Facepainting, a children’s showcase, live musical performances, African drumming, chess, cards and music spinning all day from the oft-requested DJ Lamar LeRoy this party is sure to be unlike your typical block affairs. It’s also a potluck, so feel free to bring a grill and cook something up.
This year, the Sabin CDC has joined in on the fun as official partners to the party. Executive director Mary Schoen-Clark calls it an opportunity an opportunity to build a sense of “belonging.”
A film crew from the City of Portland will be on site to document this year’s festivities to feature on their website, as an example of what true community engagement should look like.
