The Healing Roots Center, which provides services to African and African American families surviving domestic violence in the Portland area, is collecting Christmas presents for 11-year-old Jasmine Medina-Barr. Her 28-year-old mother Tameka Medina and 4-year-old brother Ashawn were killed earlier this month by her father, who also shot himself in one of several domestic violence-related murder-suicides in the Portland area in the last month.
"Our hearts just go out to this child who is the only surviving member of her immediate family," said Healing Roots founder S. Renee Mitchell. "Please consider this child's grief and postmark your gift with love."
You can drop off NEW gifts appropriate for an 11-year-old girl at Reflections Coffee, 446 NE Killingsworth St., or the Healing Roots Center, 5432 N. Albina, off Killingsworth St.

If you'd like to donate money, please deposit it at any Wells Fargo branch into Tameka Medina's family fund. Last Sunday, more than $355 was raised at the Community Healing Ceremony, but supporters say that still is not enough to meet the family's needs through the holidays.
